Batik is a wax-resistant technique involving reverse dying. Such parts of the fabric that under the scheme of the design have to continue with the fabric’s original colour are covered with molten wax and then the fabric is dipped in dye. After the dye has settled the fabric is put in boiling water till the wax is completely removed. This gives to the fabric two-colour effect.
